According to the latest data, there are about 1.3 billion smokers all around the world. It’s generally believed that smoking has bad influence on the smokers’ health. I think people should get rid of this bad habit for the following reasons.

The passive smokers usually feel uncomfortable, such as headache, cough or no appetite at all. A heavy smoker can smoke up to 5 packs of cigarettes a day. If one pack is 20 Yuan, then it will cost 100 Yuan per day. The money you spend on smoking is 36,500 Yuan for the whole year. If you don’t smoke, you can use the money to do other meaningful things. For instance, traveling, investing. Last but not least, smoking has a bad impact on the smokers’ daily life and their minds. Smoking will affect the relationship between the smokers and their families. For one thing, the smokers want to quit smoking, but it’s hard. And the smokers’ families will be really disappointed if they keep on smoking. Step by step, the smokers will lose self-confident and self-respect. For another, few women are willing to marry with heavy smokers.

On the other hand, private cars also left many problems to us. The most obvious is that it joins hands in the traffic jam. We all know that the off-gas from private car is harmful to the air that we breathe. Because of it, many people get ill.

My View on Distant Education(收藏)

In recent years, distant education has generally beenbrought into the public focus. A large number of universities have offered opencourses on the internet. However, just as the saying goes, “so many people, somany minds.” People from different backgrounds take divergent views concerningthis case.

Those who have already benefited from practicing itsing high praise of it. They come up with the attitude that distant educationhas provided a wider way for students to learn various cultures around all overthe world. It is a more convenient way for students to broaden their horizon.However, there are also some others who contend that various kinds of opencourses on the internet will bring some chaos to students. Students who areexposed to too many different courses and cultures will have difficulty indistinguishing the passive ones and the opposite.

Taking into consideration both sides of the issue, Iam inclined to be on the side of the former opinion. I strongly approve of themotion that distant education is a convenient and important way for students toget in touch with foreign culture, especially for those who major in foreignlanguage learning.
