The foundations to a person's mind are based on the principals both intstilled into and gathered from experiences as a child. As children grow older, they soon start interpreting this information to decide for themselves which of their actions are right and wrong. What draws me to study Psychology is this mental processing, and how it affects a person's current and future disposition. I am particularly interested in child psychology, because it is at this stage when a person's personal identity begins to build up, as children are easily influenced by their environment and what they learn from experiences, they carry their entire lives.

Studying human psychology was always a great passion for me, and certain many factors have developed my love for the subject. At the age of 11, I often took on the responsibility of watching over my young nephews, one of whom has autism. This allowed me to observe their behaviour, and notice the irregularity of autism. It wasn't long before I found myself mentally noting down every action of the autistic child and figuring out a way to interact with him using the information I had gathered. My yearning to study the mental processing of children further grew when I volunteered to teach a class of infants. There was a language barrier between the children and I, and I found it facinating how their young minds were still able to convey their thoughts through actions, and thereby breaking through that barrier. The student thesis 'Human Evolutionary Psychology and Animal Behaviour' by Martin Daly and Margo I. Wilson of McMasters Univeristy has also captured my interest, and I aspire to be able to accomplish something comparable in terms of Child Psychology.

I am currently studying Mathematics, Biology, and English language for my A levels. Calculus is of particular interest to me because of how several methods can produce the same result. Relating this to Psychology, I find that there are several actions that bring about a single reaction in an invidual. Studying Biology has honed my ability to experiment and assess, and to notice the symptoms of many disorders. The subject has enlightened me on how the physical body works, and I am now curious to understand how the body's psyche works. English language is developing my verbal and written language skills, which I know are greatly essential for my chosen course, and whatever path it leads me to.

My spare time is filled with light reading into subjects that interest me, and I have developed some knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. Although certain circumstances don't allow me to go out very often, I am quite athletic, taking part in outdoor sports that range from basketball to skateboarding. I am also fond of travelling for I am greatly interested in different cultures and tradtions, and what significant roles they play on an individual's psyche.

As a reliable and hard-working individual, I believe I can make a worthy contribution, and perhaps more so, during my years at the university. I am very passionate about Psychology, and would eventually like to pursue a career in the field. From a very early age I remember pondering questions that were, to me, seemingly unanswerable: what existed before the Big Bang? Why is a paperclip attracted to a magnet? Now that I am older and have a wider knowledge of current physics, I can contemplate other, more involved questions. How is it possible that a cat can be alive and dead at the same time? What exactly is holding an atom together? I am fascinated by these ideas and am hungry to learn the theories needed to attempt to explain them. I welcome the prospect of spending time and effort working with the scientific community to achieve a wider appreciation of the world we live in and trying to attain a level of understanding as high as is possible in a single lifetime.

My main interest within physics lies in quantum mechanics. About two years ago I was shown a video on the Internet by an astounded friend that explained the results of Young’s double slit experiment (using electrons) in relatively simple terms. I was stunned to see that a single electron can pass through two slits at once, but as soon as its path is observed it ‘decides’ to act in a completely different manner! My ignorance of the topic created a desire for me to learn more about this astonishing idea and so I read ‘Quantum: A Guide for the Perplexed’ by Jim Al-Khallili. From this brilliant book I learnt about the way in which the electron transforms into a probability wave or “wavefunction” and interferes with itself after diffracting out of the slits. The book then introduced me to complex applications of this experiment and, along with various magazine and Internet articles, I clarified for myself intricate ideas such as Schrodinger’s cat and quantum entanglement. I also read ‘The Trouble with Physics’ by Lee Smolin in which he describes previous attempts at unification of various ideas in physics, such as the successful unification of electricity and magnetism, or the unsuccessful unification of light and sound. He then goes on to explain one of the current attempts at the unification of all known forces and particles – string theory. I feel that reading on these topics has prepared me well for undergraduate physics and I am excited at the prospect of studying at a higher level.

To familiarise myself with how physics can be used practically, I requested a visit to the Quantum Optics and Laser Science Research Group at Imperial College London. I assisted a PhD student and his supervisor every day for three weeks in their ion-trapping project that aimed to shed light on quantum computing. My main job was to build a circuit to power an electron beam. The beam was used to form ions from calcium atoms, as ions are more easily manipulated. However, the circuit had to be built in such a way that it would automatically adjust the intensity of the beam to form just the right number of ions.

In my spare time, I am generally found playing the drum kit. After passing Grade 8 with distinction I have taken up teaching and play in four different music groups: a concert band, a jazz group, a brass band and my own funk fusion band. I enjoy performing in and around London and annually touring European countries with the school concert band. To keep fit I play football and table tennis with friends. Competitively, I have represented my school on a number of occasions in football, rugby and athletics competitions.

Studying all three sciences and maths at A-level has given me the opportunity to explore a wide range of different theories, techniques and problems and has provided me with a broad scientific training base from which I wish to develop further. During my gap year I have had several work experience placements in various skilled trades such as building and joinery. Though much of the building work I have undertaken was in construction, I found it to be invaluable experience. For example, whilst helping to build a garage I learnt about the importance of good design and planning by having to interpret the designs in order to determine how many bricks would be needed. During its constuction I noticed how important it was to build accurately, particually at the corners of the building which supported most of the weight of the roof. I also discovered the importance of keeping costs low, but the quality of work high. We made a different type of cement which was cheaper and weaker, but still met the needs for the inner walls. The most rewarding part of this experience seeing the project through from a plan on paper to its completion, and the feeling of satisfaction once it was completely built.

I have a passionate interest in music and have been playing guitar for about 5 years. I have enjoyed my time as a member of a band, which has helped me to work creatively as part of a team. More recently, I have also achieved grade 2 in jazz piano. For years I have had a great enthusiasm for skateboarding and in November 2005 began undertaking voluntary work with a group helping to plan and design a skateboarding facility in Kings Heath park. I was an economics major in college and learned a lot of essential business skills, and while my grades at this time in my life were not reflective of my abilities, my interest in the subject was genuine. At that time in my life I had not yet fully identified my career goals and was working to support myself, which put a considerable strain on my study time. After graduation however I entered the work force full-time as an Accountant Analyst at a large bank and realized the necessity of a solid educational background, both in practice and on paper. I made the decision to complete a professional designation in accounting and have succeeded in completing that goal with flying colors. It was an intensive 2 year process, and one that taught me no matter how much you put on your plate, if you are committed to achieving excellence in all of your duties, it is possible—you just need to make the time. The program required the completion of many intensive group projects and my team and I were able to complete cases, write up management reports, and present them to a simulated board of directors—all of which has helped to build my confidence in my abilities and teach me that the benefits of team work in the business world are just as essential as team work on the soccer field.

I am eager now to bring my leadership abilities, involved personality, and strong commitment to academic success to business school. I know that there is nothing I can not accomplish as long as I set my mind to it, and this next step is essential for me to realize my dreams for the future.

美国留学申请流程

一、参加考试

最先要开始的，就是英语的准备，因为大家去美国留学，需要提供合格的语言标准化考试的成绩单，而不管是雅思还是托福，都是需要大家提前接受培训，熟悉和适应模式和内容的。

二、确认目标

四、提交申请

申请早一点提交，为自己留出足够的时间，而且也会比较早的获取审核的最终结果，不需要担心错过时间，因为有些专业比较热门，人数满了之后就会关闭通道，所以还是早一点提交。

等待审核的时间大概是两个月左右，在此期间，可以和学校保持联系，确认自己的材料审核状态，保证能够顺利进行，在拿到了满意的offer之后，就可以直接确认录取了。

1、不同地区的生活费用标准

去美国留学生活一般而言，可以把美国城市按照生活指数(不包括买车、外出旅行、电话和娱乐等额外消费)分为四级：

1级指美国特大城市，如旧金山、纽约、费城、洛杉矶、波士顿、芝加哥、华盛顿等，其美国留学费用生活费为1000-2000美元/月;

2级指美国大城市，如匹兹堡、西雅图、拉达斯、亚特兰大等，其生活费为800-1000美元/月;

3级指美国南部、中西部、东南部一些州，如得州、威斯康星州，依利诺州、密歇根州、乔治亚州等，其生活费为600-800美元/月;

4级包括俄克拉荷马州、密苏里州、路易斯安纳州、南卡罗来纳州等，其生活费为450-600美元/月。

在美国留学生活费不会像住宿费一样落差较大，美国留学一般情况下，学生的食衣住行花费在各州来说差别并不会很大。一般约为每年6000-8000美金左右。在大城市中，像纽约、波士顿、旧金山等，其生活费也会高一些，如果孩子喜欢逛街购物或到餐厅吃饭去，其生活费很容易就加倍。

房租：710元，一个一居室。

水电煤气：60元，这个没法再剩了。

吃饭日用：250元

在超市买菜，回家做。吃的比较好，牛奶鸡蛋是有机的，鸡鸭鱼肉虾，水果饮料不断，有时候自己在家做蛋糕。在吃上算是比较费的，其实省一点两个人200元就够了，夏天要来了，可以少吃一些肉了。呵呵，水果一般买提子葡萄柚香蕉芒果什么的。

外出用餐：50元

一个月一次吧，偶尔吃几次外面的快餐，如果去正规饭馆，一次大约35元。

上网费：15元，和老外合用的，如果单独的话大约30元。速度快的很，看视频和在国内一样的速度。

手机费：30元一人一个手机，打国内也可以，基本上用不完

洗衣服：10元投币的洗衣机

理发：20元

这个可以有，觉得没必要太省，形象也很重要。

购物：50元

这个不是每个月都买，平均下来吧，只少不多。

交通：200元

交通卡两张，现在还没有车

化妆品：40元

有活动的时候买。

基本支出合计：800--820元
